Endodontics

Endodontics

Endodontics is the dental treatment of the diseases of the dental pulp and the periapical tissues of the tooth. It enables us to save a tooth whose dental pulp is destroyed or dead. In this way we avoid losing the tooth by having to extract it.

What is the dental pulp?

It is the inner layer of the tooth; it consists of blood vessels and nerves and is responsible for the viability of the tooth.

When do we need to perform a root canal on a tooth?

  • when it is affected by deep caries reaching the inner layer
  • in case of fracture due to injury
  • when apical lesions or abscesses are observed

Why do we perform
a root canal?

Root canals aim to remove the pulp, disinfect the pulpal cavity and root canal systems as well as to block them with biocompatible material (guttapercha).
