Guidelines:

  • Encourage your child to start drinking from a glass from the age of one
  • Discourage the child from biting their fingers
  • Avoid pouring liquids such as juice, sweetened water or milk or soft drinks in your child’s feeding bottle. Also avoid sugar or honey on pacifiers.
  • Bottle feeding must be complete before bedtime; allowing a baby or child to fall asleep with the feeding bottle in their mouth involves the risk of caries development.
  • An adult must brush or supervise the brushing of children under six years of age. For children under three years old use a very small quantity of fluoride toothpaste, while for children between three and six years old use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste.

Sealants

are preventive covers of the chewing surfaces of the first permanent molars. The first permanent molars are teeth that erupt around the age of six and remain in the mouth throughout a person’s life.

Due to children’s young age and their inexperience in brushing, these teeth are affected by caries very early on. To prevent this, we recommend covering their fissures (grooves) with a thin paste so as to prevent or slow down the development of caries.
