Guidelines:
- Encourage your child to start drinking from a glass from the age of one
- Discourage the child from biting their fingers
- Avoid pouring liquids such as juice, sweetened water or milk or soft drinks in your child’s feeding bottle. Also avoid sugar or honey on pacifiers.
- Bottle feeding must be complete before bedtime; allowing a baby or child to fall asleep with the feeding bottle in their mouth involves the risk of caries development.
- An adult must brush or supervise the brushing of children under six years of age. For children under three years old use a very small quantity of fluoride toothpaste, while for children between three and six years old use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste.
