Implants

What is an implant?

An implant is an artificial tooth root made of pure titanium. It is surgically placed in the bone of the upper or lower jaw where the roots of the natural teeth used to be. In other words, an implant is placed on the same level as the gums and cannot be seen in the mouth. Following a period during which osseointegration occurs (the implant is integrated into the bone) the artificial teeth are fixed on the implant and take the place of missing teeth.

Why should I choose to be treated with implants?

  • chewing ability remains the same as that of natural teeth
  • no need for movable restorations
  • as comfortable as natural teeth
  • adjacent teeth are protected from wheeling
  • ageing does not result in loss of bone in the jaw
  • no loss of soft tissue or damage to the gums
  • excellent aesthetic outcomes
  • cannot be afflicted by caries

As all dental surgery, implant surgery requires local anaesthesia which is provided in the dental clinic.

Yes! If you have a serious health condition your dentist will contact your physician to regulate your medication and avoid any incidents during the procedure.

If you have regular check-ups and follow your dentist’s instructions after the procedure, an implant may last as long as a natural tooth.
